We travelled to Sydney for my PhD graduation this week! We had some lovely touristy fun while we were here.
Day 1: we checked in with a direct booking at oaks goldsborough suites which is a 5 min walk from the international convention centre (my graduation location) and lots of lovely food places. It was very well priced for a 2×2 apartment on the top floor for about $316 a night.
On night 1 we had dinner at Adria on cockle bay wharf (average food) and managed to get some gorgeous city lights pics. Had to have celebratory birthday drinks with my bestie who travelled on her birthday to come to Sydney and see me graduate this week!
Day 2: Taronga Zoo! Loved it. We ubered to the front gates as wanted to be first in line to book feeding the capybaras. The animal experiences are done on a first in first served basis. It was so awesome! We stayed from 9am – 3pm.
We then caught the ferry back to circular quay and enjoyed the beautiful winter sunshine while having dinner at the Opera Bar.
Day 3 was a chill day and we visited “Soak bath house” in Alexandria. Fantastic option for me before the big grad day and so relaxing. Dinner this night was as Blackbird Cafe on cockle bay wharf and while all the food looked good, the pizza was fantastic.
Day 4 – the big day! Dr Mel ahoy. The 5 min walk to the ICC was so worth the accomodation.
After grad we had a few very tasty champagnes at the Sofitel Hotel Bar. Dinner was the tasting menu at The Ternary at the Novotel. No view (despite their claim) but the food and drinks were top level.
Our last day (Day 5) saw us with a late checkout of 11am and the hotel agreed to store our bags. We had pancakes on the rocks for brunch then spent a few hours at Wild Life and Sea Life in Darling Harbour. Not cheap but both places were very interesting and lots of animal close ups as well.
