Day 2 – Amsterdam

Well, after waking up a little gritty eyed we were off! Breakfast at the hotel before an 8:30am lift into the city. We got dropped at the Anne Frank Huis as the bike tour we were meant to do with contiki got cancelled – too windy and wet. No problem with me. I seriously hate bike riding! Anne Frank Huis was amazing, very humbling. I ended up giving an impromptu history lesson to people in the line as quite a few of our contikians didn’t know much about it.

We then walked for about half an hour to the “I Amsterdam” sign and got some cheesy tourist shots before it was off on the Heineken experience. I am really not a beer drinker but I enjoyed all the interactive activities. Percy got some nice photos.

We experienced our first use of an ATM as well. Being intelligent and wordly girls neither of us had considered the fact the ATM instructions wouldn’t be in English! Oops. We got it in the end haha.

Lunch was pasta at a sidewalk cafe and then off to explore and do some shopping before the 3pm contiki pick up. We had to run to make the pick up time so enjoy the mental image of us running down some random Amsterdam street panicking :p

The plans for the evening were to visit a cheese and clogs village, eat dinner at Volendam restaurant and then go on a canal cruise. Our plans were temporarily waylaid by 40mins sitting on the motorway due to an accident but eventually we made it to “Irene Hoeve” which makes cheese and clogs – that was interesting to learn about (plus there was an awesome baby pig we could play with). He likes cheese. I did not buy a stupid Amsterdam hat but gee did I think about it! See photo below.

It was then off to dinner (delicious) and a beautiful canal cruise at night. After dinner some of us headed home (obviously planning not to be hungover for a long bus trip tomorrow) while the rest headed to shots, a bar that soecialises in…well….shots. We opted out of shots and instead are now getting ready to be warm and drunk in bed after all the free wine/beer on the cruise. In theory that means no hangover tomorrow since it is 11pm right? Right?!?

Tomorrow will be a long day – it is a 9 hour drive to Berlin! Adventure onwards πŸ™‚
