Day 9: Adios Spain, Bon Jour France

Today was an early breakfast at 7:45am as we head away from the Pyrenees and towards France. Our 6th tour member has joined us and she seems lovely, another Australian travelling solo around our age. This is her 3rd intrepid tour in a row! She has spent 2 months in Europe.
5€ breakfast at the hotel was delicious again, although I’m starting to grow weary of all this bread. So much bread. Then it was off to the train station with all our bags. There was a kerfuffle at the station where they didn’t open the ticket booth and it was all a mad rush but in the end we were able to sort it out on the train…hooray for having a tour leader! After an hour train trip, we had crossed the border and arrived in a tiny little French town. From there we had a private van to take us to Carcassonne. A quick rest and we were off to explore the castle and ancient city.

Our hotel here is very big and super cute. I’m very impressed with Hotel de la Bastide so far.

After exploring there was much red wine and some delicious dinner at a tiny little French restaurant called Restaurant Le Trivalou.

B had traditional cassoulet

creme catalana again, this one different to the first time in the mountains, we couldnt ‘t agree on a shared preference

Then we went on to drink in a very strange gothic bar. There was also street singing and dancing πŸ™‚

Tomorrow (well, actually today…how confusing!): moving on to Arles in France. I’m looking forward to the day after when we will be exploring the Provence region and an aqueduct.
