Day 13 – Rome to Tuscany to Florence

Very short entry today as I am using hotel wifi in the lobby. We left Rome early this morning with some very hungover people on the bus and headed to Tuscany. The first part of the drive was 3 hours and I was fine – we stopped for services (peeing and food) and then had another hour to go to Tuscany. The roads turned into windy mountain roads and our bus driver was a fill in one who drove like a crazy person, I came so close to throwing up on the bus! Had the plastic bags ready to go and all.

Tuscany was beautiful, we stopped at a vineyard and most of us sampled wine, bread and olive oil. It was in the Chianti region so made legit chianti wine which was tasty. I only had a few sips and sat out in the fresh air for the rest of the winery tour. It was then back on the bus to Florence (only an hour thank goodness, still feeling quite gross from more windy roads) and on to our hotel.

Which is the worst one by far!

We are in a tiny little room crammed in to a corner with ten other tiny little rooms where you can hear the guy 3 doors down roll over. The aircon doesn’t work at all either and the toilet is about a metre from my bed. It is by far the crappiest hotel yet and as Amelia and Claire said “I don’t want to be murdered in my bed”. Me either girls!

The plan for tonight Is dinner, karaoke and partying hard. I think my plan will be dinner and bed…until 1am when all the people in the rooms around us come back. Ahhhh contiki, you’re classy.

I can’t say much about Florence yet as aside from the auto park hotel we haven’t seen any of it! Tuscany was very pretty though and the wine was delish.

  1. Mel, sorry to hear you have been suffering on the bus, but a good sleep and your attitude will see you through….the trip is a ‘taster’ as you said, and will help you sort out what you want to see ‘in full’ in years to come.
Hmm, that sounds a bit weird but it is 1.49.a.m. here so brain has been asleep for about two hours.
    xxxx .

  2. p.s. if your feet are asking ‘wwhhyyyyy’, what is your tummy saying?
